THE OLMALAIKA TRUST DENTAL CLINIC
The Olmalaika Trust Dental Clinic provides free care to ALL - including consultations, x-rays, cleanings, root canals, fillings, AND extractions ONLY if there is no way to save the tooth. Dentists from Kenya and around the world volunteer their time in order to give you the best care possible at no cost.
We are open only when a volunteer dentist is here. *Our policy is Interns and COHO can
only volunteer with a dentist - not on their own.
-
Can a COHO or Intern Volunteer?
Currently our policy is that if you are a COHO or Intern you are welcome to come and volunteer WITH a licensed dentist - but not on your own. Our priority is restoration and most who come need a filling or root canals.
What do you mean by "volunteer?"
A volunteer is someone that comes to simply "give back" with out anything in return. There is no travel allowance or stipend as a volunteer. Lodging is free - and you join the staff at the Olmalaika Home for basic Kenyan meals if you are volunteering alone, but if you come with family you will need to bring your own food and do your own cooking.
Am I expected to bring supplies?
You are not expected to bring anything other then yourself, food and scrubs/uniform. We are however grateful for ANY donation that you might want to bring - gloves, masks, disposable gowns, etc.
What is provided in the dental guestroom?
Its a small room with 2 single beds - all bedding included. A washroom (shower, sink & toilet) with towels provided and a small kitchenette with a stove/oven, kitchen sink and refrigerator. Basic untensils, pots, pans, plates, bowls etc are provided. There is wifi and a TV where you can access youtube etc.
The guestroom is connected to the dental clinic so you are 2 steps away from work.
In the evenings you can request to have a fire at the outdoor kitchen up in the camp area and relax with an amazing view of the Mara
We do a massage tent - you can book a one hour massage for 5000/- ($50)
